Betsy Beams Customer Services Director

Betsy oversees Theatre Building Chicago’s box office and group sales. Betsy came to TBC in 2004 as a full-time, year-long box-office/marketing intern where she gained experience in all aspects of theatre management. Before arriving at TBC, Betsy had previously been a Tour Coordinator and Concessions Manager at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival. After earning her B.S., theatre at Illinois State University, she has worked as a stage manager, technician, creative drama instructor, actor and musician.

Allan has served in many capacities for Theatre Building Chicago including actor, dramaturg, director, and workshop coordinator. Allan oversees theatre company client services and assists in directing the musical program. He is the immediate past-president of the Illinois Theatre Association, a founding and former board member of Chicago Alliance for Playwrights, and artistic consultant for Creative Musical Theatre, an honors class dedicated to the development of new music theatre voices at Valparaiso High School. Allan has served as an adjunct instructor at Robert Morris College and at North Park University, and has worked in various capacities with the Goodman Theatre, Music/Theatre Workshop, Our Town Productions, Prologue Theatre, American DreamWorks, Different Drummer Theatre, Bailiwick Repertory, The Western Stage, Cabrillo Stage, Bigfork Playhouse and North Shore Music Theatre. Jeff joins Theatre Building Chicago with extensive experience in consumer marketing,He has worked as consultant for Comcast Cable, developed promotions and sponsorship for Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry, launched Women’s Entertainment Television (WE: TV) as their Director of Consumer Marketing and Promotions in New York, Jeff is also a former Territory manager for American Movie Classics and worked for several year in Denver for Jones Intercable. His background also encompasses performances with the Tempo players in Oak Brook IL, former board member of the Free Associates Theater Company and voice over work for local Chicago television commercials. Jeff received a BA in Communication from Columbia College Chicago and serves on the Alumni Advisory Board of its Television Department.

Leah has been an arts consultant in the areas of fund raising and philanthropy. She has worked with Theatre Building Chicago, Performing Arts Chicago, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Family Focus, Inc., Chicago Academy of Sciences/Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and The Alford Group Inc. Her experience in philanthropy includes reviewing grant requests for the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation and the MacArthur Fund for Arts and Culture at Prince Charitable Trusts. In 1999, she wrote a case study for the National Endowment for the Arts about the planning process behind an arts organization's move to a new facility. Previously Leah spent five years with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, where she worked in all areas of fund raising and board development. As part of Hubbard Street's four-member development team, she helped to launch and implement a four-year, $6 million campaign for capital, endowment and artistic projects. Joan is delighted to be surrounded by the creative chaos of the numerous performing troupes that call Theatre Building Chicago home. She currently serves on the Artistic and Technical Team of the Joseph Jefferson Committee and is a member of the Dramatists Guild. She is past president of Child's Play Touring Theatre, past vice president of the Chicago Dance and Music Alliance, past treasurer of the League of Chicago Theatres, past secretary of the Illinois Theatre Association, and past board member of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre. Previously she was executive director of the Opera Shop at the Vineyard Theatre, managing director for On Stage Productions and tour director for the National Shakespeare Company. In addition to the original musicals she has supervised at TBC, she has directed, designed and produced a wide variety of pieces for the lyric stage with an emphasis on programs for children and families. When Casey is not interning at Theatre Building Chicago and Second City Chicago, she is a senior Theatre & Arts Administration double major at the University of Kentucky. Originally from Beavercreek Ohio, she moved to Lexington and became a proud Wildcat and member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. Currently she is the Internal Philanthropy Chairman and recently finished planning the 9th Annual Mr. UK Pageant, which raised over $10,000 for the speech and hearing impaired. She is also President of the Golden Key International Honor Society on campus and also stays active by doing several Main Stage Productions for the UK Theatre Department and singing with Paws-n-Listen, an all girls a’capella group. This year she was nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Award for her performance as Mrs. Siezmagraff in Betty’s Summer Vacation by Christopher Durang. Other production credits include Barbara in Summertime by Charles Mee, Susan in tick tick…boom! By Jonathan Larson and most recently she got the privilege to travel to Paris, France with a production titled Moliere’s Women.

John Sparks Artistic Director, Musical Theatre Writers’ Workshop

John selects and oversees about 20 new musicals each season. He also directs the TBC writers' workshop, which he co-initiated in 1987. John has served as the director for the Academy for New Musical Theatre in Los Angeles since 1981, and is currently a board member and guest instructor with Mercury Musicals Development in London. He has collaborated in writing numerous musicals such as Babes in Barns, Hans Brinker, Cashel Byron, and The Arresting Dilemma of Mr. K, which have been produced in Chicago, Los Angeles and the east coast. He has received local awards such as the After Dark Award for Best Score and several commissions from Theatre Building Chicago and from the Frederick Loewe Trust, awarded by the National Alliance for Musical Theatre B.A., Stonehill College, North Easton, MA, M.F.A. Playwrighting, UCLA.

Jennifer Stafford Intern, Musical Program

As an intern, Jennifer assists John Sparks and Allan Chambers in the musical program, covering various tasks from stage managing to archiving; facilitating communication between the Musical Theatre Writers Workshop members and all participants of TBC's Stages - an annual festival of new musicals. Jennifer's also a lyricist and member of TBC's musical theatre writers workshop.
Jennifer holds a BFA in Music Theatre Performance from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University. She performed, directed, and taught professionally in Washington D.C. at both the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Tony Award-winning Arena Stage. She recently completed a 15-month national tour of The Pied Piper with the Missoula Children's Theatre, and is glad to call Theatre Building Chicago home this season!

Christian holds a BA in Theatre and Education from Denison University. He has acted in numerous plays including Fuddy Meers, Twelfth Night, Hamlet, and The Shape of Things. Directing credits include The Last Five Years and Gasping For Air. He has worked as an assistant teacher for
John Sipes, movement and fight director for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Christian calls Charlotte, North Carolina home, but is happy to call Chicago his second.

He is past Chairman of the Board of Clearbrook, a charity that serves the mentally challenged and currently Chairman of Major Gifts and a member of the finance and marketing committees for this organization. He is past Education Chairman for the Chicago Chapter of the World Presidents Organization, and incoming Chapter Chairman. He is also an advisor for the Arial Homes Foundation, and the chapter advisor to the WPO Legacy committee. In addition he serves on several private and not for profit boards.

Craig S. Wilson, President

Craig Wilson is a successful businessman, with ownership of American Recruiters, a management recruiting firm, as well as equity in other ventures. Craig’s personal goal is to write music that stands the test of time. His most recent work is Black, White & Gray (book by Luther Goins, lyrics by Myrna Petlicki and music by Craig Wilson) which will debut in March 2007. Craig is also writer of the book, lyrics, and music for Rio, a passion play symbolizing the plight of poorer classes, which was recorded in conjunction with key members of the Northwestern University WAA-MU cast in 1992. His production company, Air Play Music Ltd., has produced several commercials including Clearbrook, which aired on Chicago radio throughout 2002-2004.
